Qld Branch Secretary Les Crofton bows out

On the virtual eve of my retirement, it is appropriate that I thank you for your comradeship over past years. I have worked for the Union for about two decades, the last half of which I have been Branch Secretary, and so it is time to move on.

I do so with a real confidence that ongoing officers, delegates and members will maintain the strong traditions of our Union: to advance (and if necessary, defend) the interests of rail, tram and bus workers.

Comrade Owen Doogan will be the Queensland Branch Secretary from January 1, 2002. He will bring to the role many excellent qualities and useful experiences. Most importantly, he will undertake the job with the unreserved support of all Queensland officers and members.

It remains that I extend to you all, the National and Branch Officers and members of our fine union, good wishes for the future.

Yours fraternally,
Les Crofton
