RTBU-PacNat member's EBA 2005 Update Newsflash! 53

02 March 2006

RTBU National Delegate Phone Hook Up:

The RTBU conducted a national delegate phone hook up today involving delegates from all classifications representing depots across the country. The outcome of the phone hook up was the endorsement of the resolution detailed below. Delegates have agreed to take the resolution to meetings of rank and file members for their endorsement, before reporting back on another national hook up scheduled for next Thursday.

It is important that you attend any meetings scheduled for your location, or speak to your local RTBU delegate about the resolution.

RTBU RESOLUTION:

This meeting of RTBU Members condemn Pacific National Limited (PNL) withdrawing from negotiations to establish a new collective agreement.

This refusal by PNL to negotiate in good faith has occurred after more than 60 formal meetings with the RTBU. These negotiations had resolved all but two issues: Driver Shift Lengths and the Maintainer classification structure.

We recognise that changes under the Work Choices legislation may require the Union to act within further restriction however we demand that PNL management recommence negotiations with the RTBU to conclude a collective agreement. These negotiations to commence no later than 13th March 2006.

We authorise union officials and delegates to continue to co-ordinate the ongoing campaign, this may include protected industrial action until such time as a new collective agreement is finalised and certified.

In simplified terms, there are three key elements to the resolution. They are:

  • Do we want a collective Agreement (Yes).
  • Are we prepared to continue our campaign to get a collective Agreement? (Yes)
  • Will WorkChoices stop us from pursuing a long term collective Agreement? (No)

Members will be kept up to date with any significant outcomes of the Enterprise Agreement status through future newsletters, as appropriate.

Further Information:

Members will continue to be kept informed of any significant developments through future editions of your Newsflashes. For further information on issues regarding the Enterprise Agreement negotiations please contact your local RTBU delegate, your respective RTBU State Branch or the National Office.
