Kevin Tyrrell - Candidate Statement

By Kevin Tyrell

Candidate for NSW Branch Delegate to National Executive

Dear fellow members,

I am writing to you to ask for your support for my nomination to the position of NSW Delegate to the National Executive.

The National Executive represents Members views on the RTBU's approach to national matters, including:

  • ACTU related issues,
  • Limiting the effects of the draconian industrial laws instituted by the Howard Government,
  • Helping to ensure equal rights, pay and conditions across Australia by setting the best conditions as the standard.

I currently hold the positions of NSW Delegate to the National Council and RTBU Executive Officer (Kingsgrove).

My beliefs revolve around the principle of a "fair go for all" and using commonsense in the resolution of disputes. I also believe in the principle of a "fair days pay for a fair days work" and will continue to argue for fair and just pay increases in recognition of members' skills, experience and contribution to the community, as well as offsetting the debilitating effects of inflation and general increases in the cost of living.

I also deplore the privatisation of FreightCorp, National Rail, as well as other interstate bus and rail services, and will not endorse any public body, e.g. State Rail and State Transit, being privatised.

Again, I ask for your support for my nomination to the position of NSW Delegate to the National Executive and thank you for taking the time to read this.
