RTBU-PacNat Member's EBA 2005 Update Newsflash! 44

16 December 2005

In this edition of YOUR EBA Update Newsflash! - RTBU AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM PN.

Members are advised that we are still waiting a response from Pacific National to the correspondence sent to the company last Friday 9 December, in relation to reaching a settlement on outstanding issues.

During our meetings with the company last week progress was made on the majority of outstanding items. Following telephone conferences of both your negotiating committee and national delegates, correspondence was forwarded to the company seeking their comment of a number of matters which the RTBU still believes need to be resolved.

On Monday 12 December the company sought clarification from your Union on a number of the points raised in our correspondence, which we responded to that afternoon. The company also advised that a response would be provided on Tuesday 13 December, as it needed to be cleared by the CEO.

As members would by now be aware, the CEO left Pacific National on Tuesday 13 December, and as of today, 15 December, a replacement has not been found. This has resulted in a delay in a response being received from the company.

The RTBU has advised Pacific National that we would hope for everybody's sake the current problems within the company does not result in an unnecessary delay in reaching a resolution to the negotiations.

This is causing some frustration as we had hoped an 'in principle' agreement could be reached before the end of this week. The drafting process could then commence, followed by a review of the wording by the negotiating committee. This process could then be finalised before the end of next week.

A meeting has been arranged with the company today, 15th December, to start the process of clarifying interpretations to a number of the clauses, as this needs to be done before any briefing sessions are conducted (should agreement be reached).

It is hoped at this meeting that the company will be able to confirm when they will be in a position to send their response to the Union. Pacific National's response will be one of a number of matters for the negotiating committee to consider on Friday 16th December.
