Report of the Auditors to the Members

We have examined the Balance Sheet of the Australian Rail Tram & Bus Industry Union of Employees (the Union) as at 31 December 2003 and the related Statement of Income and Expenditure for the period then ended. Our examination included such tests of the accounting records and other audit procedures, as we considered necessary in the circumstances.

(A) In our opinion:

(i) the organisation kept in relation to the year ended 31 December 2003 satisfactory accounting records, including:

  1. Records of the sources and nature of income of the organisation (including income from members); and
  2. Records of the nature and purpose of the expenditure of the organisation; and

(ii) the accounts and statements, prepared under section 273 of the Workplace Relations Act 1996, as amended, in relation to the year ended 31 December 2003 were properly drawn up so as to give a true and fair view of:

  1. the financial affairs of the organisation as at the year ended 31 December 2003; and
  2. the income and expenditure, and any surplus or deficit, of the organisation for the year ended 31 December 2003.

(B) We have, where necessary, obtained all the information and explanations which, to the best of our knowledge and belief, were necessary for the purpose of our audit.
