Rail strikes in Paris

In the week of January 17, 2005, about 210,000 public sector workers marched through the streets of French cities to protest over pay, public sector reforms and job cuts.

The postal and power workers went on strike on January 18, railway workers on January 19, and teachers and air traffic controllers on the 20th.

Inflation has cut the buying power of wages, the government is moving to change the 35-hour week law and public sector pensions.
